Ethical ‘Criminal Damage’

Great article on the Ratcliffe-on-Soar trial by Tim Holmes over at New Left Project. While the bulk of the piece is a very readable summary of the verdict, sentencing and implications, the concluding point on the converging needs of human civilization in both environmental and social justice terms is wonderfully succinct:

“Increasingly it seems as though the best we can honestly hope for at present – failing (and perhaps even assuming) some unforeseen and largely unprecedented social or technological change – is alleviating the severity of impending climate impacts. Yet the task of creating liveable and humane social conditions for the future is no less urgent for that – even if we start, as always, in conditions that are not of our choosing.” – Tim Holmes
