Russell Brand: Buddhist or Althusserian Marxist?

Is his slightly mangled philosophy more akin to the trendy back-to-nature Western distillation of Buddhism or Taoism, or to the theories on ideology, consumerism, de-politicization and the media espoused by Althusser, Baudrillard and ZizekYou decide. I found the interview fascinating, frustrating and deeply contradictory. Very human, really. I also enjoyed watching Jeremy Paxman’s demeanour change throughout; he seems to begin by imagining he will be entirely bored by the whole event, and is evidently rather surprised by Brand’s articulate and provocative answers (however disingenuous they may have been).
